ECOLOGICAL APPLICATION SUBMISSIONS

The N2007 Scientific Committee is happy to announce plans for two different issues of the journal Ecological Applications that will contain papers inspired by the meeting. The first of these will be an Invited Feature, which is a highlighted section of a standard issue of the journal that contains up to 8 (though typically fewer) short, synthetic papers. Authors planning a paper for the I.F. are encouraged to broadly communicate their plans with other meeting attendees that have expertise in the paper’s target area, so that the papers can be truly synthetic and so that duplicate efforts are avoided. Final decisions on acceptance, and on whether or not a paper will be included in the Invited Feature, will be made by the Ecological Applications editorial board. The deadline for papers submitted for the Invited Feature is Jan 31st, 2008. Papers should be submitted electronically through the journal’s standard submission process, and should note as part of that submission that the paper is to be considered for the N2007 Invited Feature. Information on the journal, including instructions for authors, can be found at http://www.esa.org/publications/eco_applications.php. Our hope is that if all deadlines are met, the Invited Feature could appear in late 2008.

In addition, if enough papers are submitted and accepted, Ecological Applications has agreed to publish an entire special issue of the journal, likely a few months after the I.F. This will be an extra issue, and can contain a larger number of papers, and a broader array of paper types (including more site- or study-specific papers), than the Invited Feature. As with the I.F., all submissions must meet the standards of the journal to gain acceptance, and final decisions will be made by the editorial board. The deadline for submission to the special issue is March 31st 2008. As described above, papers should be submitted through the standard electronic process and note that they are to be considered for the N2007 special issue. Any papers submitted for consideration for the I.F. that are accepted but not chosen for that issue will be given the option of appearing in the special issue.

Submission deadlines must be met to be considered for either of these issues, so that publication of either issue is not extensively delayed. Questions about either of these publication possibilities can be directed to Alan Townsend (townsena@colorado.edu).
